421a Policy Recommendation

My take on the property tax exemption law, 421a in New York, and how it must change.

Stratified on  West 16th

I wrote this article about inequalities in Lower Chelsea, from when and where they stem, and how some are working to create change.

My Work

Welcome!

My name is Wyatt Frank and I grew up on 27th Street and 8th Avenue, in Chelsea.  Even since the time in which I grew up in the neighborhood, Chelsea has seen some major changes to its commercial and residential landscape. This has created a safer environment and one that is populous during the day, but it has also made for the exasterbation of income and wealth inequalities in the neighborhood.

Chelsea is a diverse community, and many different neighbords make up its streets. The purpose of this website is to provide information on the neighborhood that is lower Chelsea, around West 16th Street and Ninth Avenue in Manhattan. Like any, this is a neighborhood that is home to different storylines and people. I have chosen this section of Chelsea as a microcosm for the diversity but also the inequality that is becoming characteristic of New York City.

Here, interested residents of Lower Chelsea may find the places and the players that I have taken particular interest in. Residents will hopefully learn a few things:

1. How new are the commercial spaces and how obvious is their impact on the neighborhood?

2. Who in my neighborhood is involved in changing it - for better or for worse?

3. How can I get involved?

There is good and bad to gentrification, and many debates currently being had over the future of New York and the future of neighborhoods like Chelsea. It is important that we, as residents, stay involved in ensuring the best outcomes for our community.
